Paint Chip Banner

On the Imagine blog today I'm sharing an AIR's project featuring the "Kids Craft" Challenge.  this is a little banner that can be made by kids for a housewarming gift.  Just a few stamps and some old paint chips are needed, you can add even more than these chips (like die cuts) to the banner if you like.  As much or as little as you feel like doing.  Check out the Imagine blog for instructions and a supply list.

A fun BBQ project using StazOn Studio Glaze

Today on the IMAGINE Crafts blog I'm sharing a chair banner I made for a friend of ours, Dave.   He is the BBQ King around here!  He told me this will accompany them on all camping trips to hang on his chair.

Another card using Memento inks

This is a different card made using the same techniques that I shared in my post yesterday.  I did a series of these summery cards, just trying to chase away the winter blues.

Snap the Kaleidacolor Tomato Vine  ink pad together for use.

Run the brayer over the pad and ink the prepared paper in both directions.

Spray lightly with water and allow the inks to blend together like watercolors.  Dry with a heat gun.

Apply a gesso banner using a stencil.  Allow the gesso to dry.  Stamp phrase and vegetable crop onto card using StazOn Black ink.  Using an adhesive, mat on to black card stock, red patterned paper and then adhere the panel on to a white blank card measuring 4 3/4" by 6 3/4".

You control how dark or how light the ink on the gesso will be.  If you feel it is too dark just spray more water on it and blot it  with a paper towel.  You can also lift off color with a baby wipe.  I hope you'll try this technique using Memento inks.  It is similar to the way I do my Art Journal pages.

I made a couple more cards while I had a mess on my work table, I'll share those with you tomorrow.  When you're doing a project like this it is a good idea to make several different cards that can be used for all occasions.  When you make several you only have to set up once and clean up once while getting multiple cards that are all different.  It saves you time in the long run.

Dreams of Summer::Just a Note

Today's card is an all occasion card inspired by the colors of Tsukineko Kaleidacolor five-color ink pad appropriately named "Tomato Vine".  Since we are still in the dead of winter here in New England these colors are those of summer, a distant dream.

Every year on June 1st, a magical date here, I plant my garden.  That garden usually includes at least six to ten varieties of tomatoes, mostly Heirlooms, all of which are reflected in the colors found in this ink pad.  Memento's Peanut Brittle, Morocco, Love Letters, Espresso Truffle and Bamboo Leaves are a beautiful combination of colors, just like my tomatoes.  I actually made several cards using my new ink pad but the one for today is my favorite.

This card starts with a 4" by 6" piece of 90 lb. watercolor paper to which I have applied a light coating of gesso.  With a little help from my heat gun the gesso dries pretty quickly.  Next I used a brayer to apply ink from the new Tomato Vine pad.  Kaleidacolor's innovative sliding palette clicks together when in use and then apart to keep the colors from bleeding together when not in use.  Pretty clever!

After the ink was applied in both directions I sprayed a light mist of water on it and allowed the inks to blend.  I dried the damp paper with a heat gun again to set the colors.

To make a banner across the panel I used gesso and a stencil.  I applied the gesso with an old credit card, lifted the stencil gently and allowed it to dry.

 After the gessoed banner dried the sentiment from Rubber Stampede was stamped in the left lower corner with Tsukineko StazOn Jet Black ink .  The finished "watercolor" panel was matted onto black card stock and then glued onto a card made from a piece of folded white card stock measuring 4 3/4" by 6 3/4".  A large butterfly from K & Co. was affixed to the upper right hand corner.  What would summer be without butterflies?
