Tim Holtz 12 Months of Tags::September

Now that it is September Tim Holtz has published his tag for this month.  I did the best I could with what I had in my stash, I never seem to have all the right components on hand.  I had about half of the supplies so instead of putting the number 5 on mine I put 1/2.  To see what Tim came up with check out this link:
http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2012-september/.  I was able to take his class a couple of months ago at Absolutely Everything in Topsfield, MA so I was acquainted with the metal sheets.  Unfortunately, I liked it so much I used up my supply and haven't replenished it so I substituted electrician's tape for the metal background.  It was downhill from there.  Anyway, the key of the monthly tags is to have fun playing along.
Make a tag with what you have and join in the fun.

SDC::263 Color Challenge from Stampotique

Sarinda is hosting the challenge at Stampotique this week and it is a color challenge based on this color chart.
I decided to take these colors and make a piece of my own paper using alcohol inks.  I used the following Alcohol Inks by Adirondack:  Stonewashed, Aqua, Cranberry, Wild Plum, Pitch Black and Pearl.  I dropped a little Colorless Blender on the colors and then sprayed some canned air on the drops to make a splatter effect.  It looks a little like flowers when all is said and done.
Then I cut up the paper and made a small plaque for an "artiste".  I used some of the paper to make little flowers using the Alterations Tattered Pinecones die.  The "leaves" are cut from paint chips using the same die.  The tiny hanger is made by Melissa Frances and is the perfect shabby chic hanger for my artist.

Enjoy the rest of your week!  We had the perfect summer day today.  Lots of sun and low humidity.

July Tag Tim Holtz style

Tim Holtz's tag for July involves alcohol inks and canned air.  Sounds like fun, doesn't it?  I used Ranger's Glossy Paper cut in the shape of a tag.  My alcohol ink colors were Butterscotch, Aqua and Latte.  I dropped a couple of drops of each color and sprayed the air on each drop to get the effect, just like Tim showed in his video.  Added a few embellishments and Voila!
I used the flourish from Stampers Anonymous and the words are from Anna Griffin.  I ran the silver foil through my machine using the Patchwork texture fade and punched the bottom with my EK notebook punch.  The flower was cut from scraps with Tattered Florals by Alterations.  I dyed the gauzy ribbon to match with the alcohol inks.  Then I decided I should do one more:

I used the same alcohol inks but added pearl on top of the aqua.  Then I rubbed a little of the new seasonal color from Ranger called Shaded Lilac.  I love that color it is so soft.  I stamped the Eiffel Tower by Stampers Anonymous on the tag and followed that up with the word "Paris" by Stamp Camp.  I used the flourish from SA again and added the paper flower, a metal word and metal number (both Tim Holtz products).  The bottom was edged with EK's notebook punch and a little ribbon tied at the top to finish it.

SDC46: Pocket or Purse Calendar-Stampotique Stamps ONLY!

Closed

Opened

Well, for me this was a challenge!  I wanted to make a really tiny calendar using only Stampotique stamps so I decided to use dominoes.  I have gotten a lot of inspiration from Laura Carson's site http://artfullymusing.blogspot.com/.  She makes BEAUTIFUL books, mine is just kinda cute.  So, after looking through my stash I found some old dominoes that I have been saving for a special occasion.  I made the little book covers out of two antique dominoes that I bought at the Brimfield Fair a long time ago (they each measured 1 7/8" by 7/8" and are 1/4" thick).  A couple of years ago I took a class with Tim Holtz using alcohol inks on dominoes and decided to try that technique.  So, I distressed them with Adirondack's Alcohol inks.  Using StazOn black ink, I stamped the Stampotique image called "Row Faces" using just two of the faces on each domino.  Then I wrapped the edges of the dominoes with a gold metallic tape, making sure to burnish the tape with a bone folder.  I covered the stamped images on the dominoes with Ranger's Glossy Accents and allowed it to dry overnight.  I used the Glossy Accents again to glue on the 4 beads that serve as "feet" that allow the calendar to be freestanding.  The dominoes are each attached to a corrugated piece of cardboard which is lined with ribbon and a patterned paper backing.  The black ribbon is cut to tie on each side.  I cut up the tiny calendar and glued it to a strip of black card stock which was folded accordion style and glued to the inside.  Ribbons tie on either side to keep it closed and little paper flowers by Prima were colored also with Alcohol Inks to match the dominoes and glued to the top with glue dots.  The pearl headed stick pins were also colored by the Alcohol Inks to match and tucked in behind the tiny flowers.  The finished product measures 2 1/4 " wide x 1 1/4" high.  Now that is a TINY calendar!

Simon Says Challenge/Tim Holtz Tags

This is a Tim Holtz inspired tag.  The stamps are by "My Sentiments Exactly" and also "IndigoBlu's"crackle stamp.  The flowers are Tim's Tattered Florals die cut.  I used Rusty Hinge Ranger ink, Iced Spruce ink (which I adore) and Graphic 45 Steampunk paper with a little Rock Candy stickles on the butterflies.  I colored  some of Tim's pearls with ink to match the other components and tied them to the top of the tag.  It is a tag that can be used for almost any occasion.
