Published in The Stampers' Sampler!

WooHoo!  I just received my latest issue of The Stampers' Sampler and saw that I had three cards published.

I've been submitting my work to different Stampington magazines since 2005 and it is still always a big thrill to see my work in a magazine.  Not too long ago I was communicating with an online friend who was just devastated that she had submitted quite a few things for a challenge and was disappointed that only one thing had appeared in print.  I have been asked often what my "secret" is to getting published.  The only advice that I can give to others who want to be published is to see what type of material and color schemes the magazine uses, they vary all the time.  Also submit to challenges, give them many samples of your work and submit often.  Just as an example let me show you how many projects I submitted to this one challenge.....the 20th Anniversary of The Stampers' Sampler magazine.

Those plus a few others were submitted and I count myself fortunate that I had one published.  Here it is:

There she is in the center.  My point is that if you want to be published in magazines and I know that for many that is a dream, you need to submit often and give the editors a lot of choices.  Try not to be too disappointed if your favorites don't make the final cut,  you can always pay the return postage and have your work returned to you.  But if that is your dream go for it!  Don't give up.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I would love to read any comments or input that you have on this subject.  In the meantime, have a great week.  Take care~Renee

  1. Congratulations (and well deserved) on another publication Renee!
Your words ring true. The only way to make the dream a reality is to submit. It is the most wonderful feeling when seeing our art in print, I believe it brings a sense of validation.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if, through reading this post, someone decides they will submit for the first time and in 6 months time they see their art in print!

  7. Hi Renee, many congratulations on being published. I have submitted my first 6 cards for the 'different point of view' article in the Stampers Sampler. Whether they are going to use them is anybody's guess ! I did see they could take up to a year to use stuff. I appreciate your advice and shall probably keep trying to send stuff to them...
Anyway, congrats to you again. Love your work !

  8. Hi Corrie~ There have been times I submitted work and saw it up to 2 or 3 years later! One time I kept saying "that's not my card" but I copy everything I send in and put it in a file. There it was, the ugliest card I ever made, but it was mine. (lol)
It takes 6 months for the challenges to be published. Never give up hope though, there is always the Catch Up Issue (400 More Cards is the new name) that comes out once a year in the summer. Don't get discouraged! Thanks for stopping by my blog, I appreciated your comment.
    Hugs~

  9. First, Renee, congratulations on your most recent publication! I agree, it is well deserved! I have submitted works to online publication and been published several times, but never "in print." I submitted my first piece of steampunk art to an online magazine, and, after it was rejected, posted it on Facebook, where someone saw it and suggested I submit it to "Just Steampunk," which I did. Never heard a word from them until about 6 months later when a "free" copy of the magazine appeared in my mailbox. As I was flipping through it, there was my submission! You are right in that the first step to being published is to submit, submit, submit! The second step is then to let it go and move on. One day, when you least suspect it, it will happen! I am so glad that you have shared this post with others. And, again, congratulations.

  13. Your pieces are fab and congrats on the latest one being published. You're so right about frequent submissions and keeping an eye on what the magazines generally publish. Wise words! I hope you've inspired someone to submit from this post (I bet you have).
